My photo
My name is Doug and I like to travel to.... well, anywhere really... I've combined this with my fairly recent love of photographs to make this travel blog. If I find it interesting I take photos and I post them here, and I try to find a bit of cultural insight too. Please leave a comment or use the comment boxes to reach me. I usually reply within a few days!

Search here for my old blog posts by the date that I posted them...

Genoa, Italy

View from the main square in Genoa
Here is the small building which houses the Elevator
I spent a good hour walking around Genoa the other day before someone said "Take a left, go through the tunnel, pay 50 cents and take the elevator" - which I did, and the elevator comes out here, up at the top of the hill which overlooks Genoa with spectacular views right down to the Marina.

One interesting thing I could see from this viewpoint was the amount of rooftop gardens- very beautiful but not for the faint-hearted...

After this I spent my day wandering the small dark alleyways in between all the 8 storey buildings that make up the core of the city. I can't say Genoa is spectacular, but it is very interesting. There is a lot of history here, but I won't write about it, because it involves how the republic used to accommodate royal families or important dignatories and ambassadors from other countries. Basically it's just some elegant buildings. That's pretty much it.
When you realise you have a touch of vertigo...
A garden with a city view...
Genoa's main shopping high street
I love finding buildings like this when walking down the backstreets...
