My photo
My name is Doug and I like to travel to.... well, anywhere really... I've combined this with my fairly recent love of photographs to make this travel blog. If I find it interesting I take photos and I post them here, and I try to find a bit of cultural insight too. Please leave a comment or use the comment boxes to reach me. I usually reply within a few days!

Monaco and beyond

Superyacht "Myspace"

Superyacht "Big D"
Sat in some random bay near Nice for the night at anchor, saw this yacht that is obviously about to sink... and then the Big D.... these superyachts do seem to get everywhere round here.

After this, we turned up in Monaco, the day before the Monte Carlo masters Final. The town was buzzing. Preparations were all in line for the Monaco grand prix too. Stands were being put up and the whole place was starting to take shape. Fortunately, I've raced around the monaco race track over 100 times on Gran Turismo on the playstation... so I used my built in navigational ability of the computer based track to find my way around this track- and I was genuinely surprised at how accurate it was! I started at the tunnel and worked my way around the course backwards, watching for where the track has been opened back up for normal traffic. Got to the hairpin, cut through to the casino and walked around the corner to the uphill climb that comes after turn 1.

I was walking round very casually, and stopping frequently because Monaco is absolutely littered with fantastic new and old sports and race cars, everywhere you look. And a lot of their owners like driving fast on certain parts of the circuit. I was lucky enough to witness a Bugatti Veyron blast through the tunnel! Good cars sound awesome in Monaco- not just through the tunnel, but everywhere in the town because of the steep backdrop of mountains. The sounds just reverberate back off them.

Chromed Bugatti Veyron driving through the chicane just after the tunnel (The chicane is currently removed)

Ford Mustang 500 - for sale!

Porsche something-or-rather. Would love for someone to tell me exactly what model this is

360 spider

Anyway, after witnessing all the blatant showing off by rich people, or at least, people pretending to be rich, I headed back to the boat and we were shortly back at sea, on our way up to San Remo, and then on to Genoa...
